Because he’s leaving at the end of the summer. We were slowly easing into a friendship that was gearing up to explode into something I might not recover from. But despite that, I found myself waking up every day with a new-found energy. ![]() Our first encounter was embarrassing, to say the least. Cookies most of all with nutella cookies and snickerdoodles featuring the most prominently. ![]() Food plays quite a large role in these books. It is almost impossible to read Debora’s books with out getting hungry and/or having the urge to start baking. You may be wondering what this has to do with a cooking blog and nutella cookies. If you like a bit of magic in your books, I would certainly recommend this series. It didn’t take me long to be hooked on Debora’s books and I very quickly worked my way through the whole series (that has been published to date that is). And although I’ve previously stated that I read cookbooks like novels, I do like reading novels and my “go to” genre would have to be sci fi/fantasy.Ī few months ago, a friend of mine recommended the A Modern Witch series by Debora Geary. And I remember as a child, sneakily trying to get away with reading a book under my covers with a torch (I think that was probably about as rebellious as I ever got, trying to read after it was lights out time). ![]() Okay, at that point I was probably only looking at the pictures, but still, I liked my books. And others of me at only nine months old reading a book. ![]() I think I’ve been a bookworm for as long as I’ve been able to read, and there are photos of me, only a few years old, reading to my brother when he was a baby. ![]() For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to read. ![]() 5/10/2023 0 Comments Murakami haruki norwegian wood![]() ![]() In some ways it's a melancholic, elegiac book. Wanatebe, in the meantime, goes on with his life and meets Midori, a student in his university - a slightly twisted girl, whose hobbies are getting drunk and watching porn movies. But Naoko is mentally ill, and is stationed in an asylum. Wanatebe and Naoko met through Kidzuki, and became "together" some time after his death. One of them is Naoko, the girlfriend of Kidzuki, his late friend, who killed himself in the age of 17. "Norwegian wood" is an "autobiographic" (told by "I", but a fiction, not a real autobiography) story of Wanatebe, a twenty year old student in Tokyo of the 1960s. ![]() Well, some friends also told me that it's a good book, but I get may such tips and my book reading list is long, so the excuse for reading this one is my vivid curiosity about Japan. It truly amazes me how this relatively small, resource-less country manages to be one of the world's strongest economic powers, and undoubtedly the most technologically advanced nation on this planet.Īnd that's why I really wanted to read this book. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() He plays a corrupt, gay bashing (ironic) lawyer who has no limit to what he will do to save himself (he too had AIDS but says it's cancer, having spent his entire life in the closet, much to the disgust of most of the rest of the male gay cast). Whilst, at times, you might want Garfield to slightly reign in the histrionics (and the fey gayness to be honest) you sit with bated breath waiting for Nathan Lane to go off on vitriolic outburst after hateful rant. Core ensemble shout outs also have to go to the entire cast especially Denise Gough, James McArdle, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Russell Tovey. But the support he gets from Nathan Lane, in particular, is astounding. The acting is uniformly brilliant with Andrew Garfield in the lead role of AIDS sufferer Prior Walter. In fact it is a breeze because the writing of Tony Kushner and the direction of Marianne Elliot (The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night) pepper this doomsday epic with both humour and beauty (in staging, lighting, sound and movement – it's a technical masterpiece throughout). Eight hours in a theatre (or in this case my two favourite cinemas The Cameo in Edinburgh for Part 1 and The Hippodrome in Bo'ness for Part 2) is a daunting prospect, especially when the subject matter threatens to overwhelm you emotionally. ![]() ![]() Long story short, January of 2000 Move Your Stuff, Change Your Life hit the shelves. ![]() ![]() I called them back and asked, “What feng shui book are you looking to acquire?” The rejection letter said that “although they are looking to acquire a feng shui book, this wasn’t the one.”ĭid you see it? The opportunity? When you have your home feng shuied, you start to notice the opportunities right under your nose, that before you were convinced weren’t there. So I pitched Simon and Schuster a book entitled “Feng Shui Your Landscape.”Īnd they politely declined. But a funny thing happens when you start to arrange your environment more optimally…your path becomes clearer, your authentic self more aligned, you can take greater risks feeling confident of their outcome. I was at the time, a landscape architect who had been studying and applying feng shui principles to my design work. It was about 1994 or 5 when I thought I had something to offer others in the field of feng shui by way of a book. ![]() ![]() ![]() Black is the sky and the Earth, is overcome. The October storm roars on the restless sea of the Antilles… It is night, and the blasts of a hurricane wind crashing against the cliffs of rocks by the giant waves, which then falls into a seething blanket of foam under the scourge of the rain. ![]() I attached the picture of the late Eduardo Palomo and Edith Gonzales, because I think I can never erase the image of them as Juan del Diablo and Monica de Altamira from my mind. So now thanks to my Colombian hubby, I have gained fluency in Spanish enough to read the Novela and translate it into English just for fun I still haven’t decided if I am going to continue or not, since it is a very long story with 3 books. I love most of all Epic or Fantasy stories (with the exception of Game of Thrones, the series), this one brings me to great memory of my younger years, watching the actual Tele Novela at home, a lot of things I didn’t understand as it was dubbed to Bahasa Indonesia, plus the voices they chose for the leads were in my opinion laughable. ![]() |
