They just crashed on earth, picked up and left to go somewhere else, leaving their garbage behind, as if Earth was just a pit stop. They probably won't ruin the book or the plot for anyone)Įven though the Zone is an alien crash site, there are no aliens in the book. (Note: some light spoilers below, basically just explaining the premise of the book and discussion of themes. Just about the only thing the games and book have in common is the existence of "the Zone" (alien crash site in book, nuclear disaster site in the games), in which people called "Stalkers" go to salvage scrap and technology to make a living. For one thing, there are no monsters or nonhuman creatures at all and basically no violence. But then I realized that the STALKER games are very loosely based on the book. Frankly, it blew my expectations out of the water, since I was expecting it to be an adventure novella about people fighting mutated monsters, since that's what the games are like. I got this book for my birthday last year from my girlfriend at the time, but didnt get around to reading it til this summer.
